Tim Dobrovolny (*1973, in Darmstadt) started his career as a composer and producer, deeply inspired by Torsten Fenslau, the visionary producer behind Culture Beat. Fenslau’s unique approach to electronic music and his independent spirit left a lasting impression on Dobrovolny, who considered him an early mentor until his untimely death in 1993.
After various releases as a producer, e.g. with Urban Records (Motor Music) and Club Zone (Polydor), Dobrovolny joined Polydor as a Junior A&R Manager in 1996. Moving to Hamburg for the role—and starting at the legendary Glockengießerwall 3, then widely regarded as the most prestigious address in the German music business—marked a defining step in his professional life. He quickly rose through the ranks: becoming A&R Manager in 1997, co-founding Zeitgeist with Tom Bohne in 1998, and later serving as Director A&R Polydor Zeitgeist.
After taking on roles as Head of A&R at Polydor (2002) and Senior Director A&R/Marketing at Polydor Island Group (2003), he became Director A&R at Virgin Music Germany (2004). In 2006, he transitioned into freelance consulting (Management Lexy & K-Paul), before becoming Managing Director of Berlin-based electronic music label Get Physical 2007, which saw global success with Booka Shade.
From 2009, Dobrovolny shifted to photography, specialising in portraits of actors, blending emotional storytelling with visual presentation. What began as a personal interest led him not back to the music world, but—somewhat unexpectedly—into film and television. He worked with some of Germany’s most renowned film and television personalities, including Muriel Baumeister, Rainer Strecker, Aleksandar Jovanovic, Laura Tonke, Peri Baumeister, Claudia Michelsen, Friederike Kempter, Jana Klinge a.m.m. His work has been featured in leading publications such as STERN TV, BILD, FAZ, and DIE ZEIT, and was also published in his book Catch the Moment.
Regardless of the medium, his passion is shaping and advancing artist´s careers. His work involves developing creative systems for artists and brands to create resonance - in music, images, or digital spaces.
